Thermoplastic chemical storage tanks
In order to provide safe and permanent containment for the storage of corrosive or toxic chemicals, Michael Smith Systems supports its technology in systems engineering with its own tank manufacturing facilities. Within this dedicated production area, the company makes nearly all its own plastic storage tanks, using a range of materials and giving capacities of up to 200 tonnes and beyond.
As many of our systems for the treatment of potable water and effluent are purpose-designed, self-manufacture of associated tankage also enables it to be job-matched to the complete system. According to the application, tanks are produced in a range of materials including:
- Polypropylene
- Polyethylene
- PVC
- PVDF
- Other thermosplastic materials – details on request
Many MSS-built storage tanks exploit the benefits of composite construction, using GRP-reinforced thermoplastic technology to enhance the engineering properties. A welded thermoplastic inner shell provides the chemical resistance, whilst GRP/polyester – itself a composite – provides the structural strength and impact resistance of the whole tank.
At the factory, we have our own in-house facility that is dedicated to tank design and manufacture. Work is carried out in accordance with the requirements of BS4994, under categories 1, 2 or 3 and to satisfy wider European design codes of practice and quality assurance.
